The Deccan Queen

From Kanyakumari to Mumbai to Poona in the space of a few hours... Then 3 superb courses in Poona and we were planning on how to go back to Mumbai... and decided that the weather was just simply too beautiful to go any other way than by train!

We traveled on the venerable Deccan Queen... The first train ever to run between Mumbai and Poona. Amazingly it still takes the same amount of time as it did back in the 1800s. The engine was not as powerful as the one used now, but the train size was very small... now its a powerful engine that pulls a very long train up the steep and gorgeously beautiful Sahyadri mountains... There was fog and rain and thunder and nature really flaunting herself in all her monsoon glory as waterfalls big and small crashed all around us... some splashing right into the train...

What a feast!

Here are some photos...

I have decided, we have to make this trip every year at this time... What a wonderful planet we live on! :)

Jai Gurudeva!

Namaste,Bau!
Every year around this time of the year I've had the good fortune of traveling by train from Bangalore to Mumbai.
Once, The Udyaan Express crosses Pune, approaching Khandala and Lonavala,it's a delightful treat to the eyes!
Those lush green environs and the sparkling streams simply make me assert how beautiful our Mother Earth is!
Lovely Pics ,Bau! :)
Jai Gurudev!

Hi Bawa,
Last month when I was in Bangalore for the Yes+ Adv I saw the same scenery both while going from Bombay to Bangalore and while coming back. It was so beautiful. It took my breath away. And while coming back I saw the most amazing and beautiful thing in my life ever. Just 15 mts away from the train 10 feet below us there were clouds. Clouds below us! So soft, tender, hanging, floating…..It was on top of a valley. That height must be the sky for them. I saw it at 4 different places…. Just thinking about it thrills me up. I saw the water falls, the greenery, the height. It was raining when coming back. Both the train doors were open. I was swinging from one door to other just enjoying the scenery.

I took photographs but later accidentely exposed the negatives (I have a digital camera but love my nostalgic college camera). Now I can look at these photograps.

"what a wonderful planet we live on!"

amen to that, bau!

when people tell me that they use volvo buses to travel between pune and mumbai even during the rains, i feel they are missing out on something. The experience of clouds entering into a non-ac bus in the ghats is just so filling...god bless mother nature!
